The Artwork of Gertrud Sorensen

Gertrud Sorensne

Gertrude grew up in Innsbruck the capitol city of the Tyrolean district of Austria where she spent much of her time in the steadfastness of the Alpine Mountains. In her early twenties she emigrated to Toronto, Ontario. At this point in her life Gertrude expressed her creativity via her camera, which she took with her on her many excursions exploring rural Ontario. The scenes she captured through her lens gave her a feeling of permanence.

Gertrud married Fritz Sorensen in Toronto and moved north to Algonquin Park. Being an avid photographer she compiled many more pictures of the awe-inspiring scenery of the many lakes, hills and rocks that Algonquin Park and surrounding area had to offer. She and Fritz raised their four children and created the successful Bear Trail Couples Resort on the eastern edge of Algonquin Park.

After raising a family and a business Gertrude returned to her art work. In 1984 after coordination painting excursions for her guests, she herself took up oil painting and has been bringing life to canvasses ever since. Gertrude exhibits in group exhibitions through out Eastern Ontario and participates in workshops when-ever she can. For many years she was an executive for the Algonquin Arts Council. For the past fifteen years Gertrude has been an executive with the Eastern Ontario Arts Association. During her time with the EOAA, Gertrude has established an annual members exhibition at the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre.

Many of Gertrud's paintings can be found in private collections in Ottawa, Toronto, Sault St. Marie, Pennsylvania, Ohio, England, Denmark, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Her work can be viewed at her Studio Gallery in Whitney Ontario.
